San Polo is one of the rising-star estates in Italy’s iconic Montalcino region. It has high-altitude vineyards – making for its signature elegant, fresh wines. Its owned by Marilisa Allegrini, who is highly regarded for Amarone, and has been certified by the CasaClima organisation as sustainable since 2013. This is a excellent style of modern-day Brunello. It’s rich and cedary, with aromas of violets and red berries and flavours of vanilla and coffee. It has been aged for 30 months in oak and six months in the bottle. This makes for indulgently smooth tannins which are fantastic with roast leg of lamb.
